Default LO Style

Hello everyone,

I've submitted a template for a suggested default style to replace the current one.

Please download it and tell me your thoughts/opinions.

Thanks for the proposal!

I like the increased paragraph spacing, but the smaller type size seems
less legible for me. 12pt font is easier to see and more comfortable to
read in a single-column layout. [1]
Captions, on the other hand, could be smaller, as they complement the
content, and could use less line spacing, to be visually closer to the
content.
The subtitle could be closer to the title for the same reason.
Heading 7 could use some differentiation from the other headings. The sans
serif font was enough differentiation in the old template. I would prefer
it if headings used a sans serif font. I really like what Google Docs does:
it uses gray for the later titles, so that they stand out.

In any case, I started a whiteboard for this:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Design/Whiteboards/Default_Template .
It'd be good to establish the typographical rules people should keep in
mind when designing the new template and to add some relevant art (e.g.
default templates in other software) before moving onto the proposal phase.

[1] Paragraphs should fit somewhere between two to three alphabets per
line:

RE: Default LO Style

I've changed headings starting from Heading 6, I used gray color and I hope that works with black-and-white printers.

Regarding the size of the text, I prefer 11pt because it's the default in most text editors out there!

What do you think?

Regards
   Ahmad

Thanks for the proposal.
In general, to me it looks good, nice balanced.. Still I have the same
idea as Mirek, that Heading1 and Heading2 are a bit high. E.g. 20 and 18
would be fine too. But that only is my personal opinion.
For the styles heading 6-10, differentiating between them with the fonts
is not so useful. In general, I expect that it will be more that
indent/numbering will be the visual difference.

But for sure it's an improvement over the current style.
Do you know if there are plans to provide more default templates?

Kind regards,
Cor

Hi Ahmad,
Because the ESC call minutes mentioned a new template, I went ahead and
searched by inbox for any e-mails about it, and here it turns out that I
read this one, but forgot to reply.
So, sorry for the late reply:

Really? Office:Mac 2008, iWork Pages, Apache OpenOffice, and AbiWord all
default to a 12px font.

But it really shouldn't matter what the competition's doing. We should be
basing our choices on what gives the best result according to
well-established rules of typography [1].

earlier message.

Could you list all the changes you made?
As I said before, I would prefer it if headings used a sans serif font
while body text used a serif font, and if the caption was smaller and
closer to the image.
