Hello,
I am unfortunately in a rush already, travelling through Germany for TDF and LibreOffice, so this comes in rather late. I plan to send it out within the next hours if there are no objections, the latest then by tomorrow. So, feedback is welcome! ;) Florian LibreOffice Conference supported by the German Federal Ministries of the Interior and of Economics and Technology Three days in Berlin focused on LibreOffice, open standards and interoperability Call for papers is open until 15th August Berlin, 20th June 2012. Today the LibreOffice project announces details of the LibreOffice Conference, taking place in Berlin from 17th-19th October. "Open standards, interoperability and free software are becoming more and more important in the political and public discourse, and will play a central role in this year's conference program," says Jacqueline Rahemipour, from the organizing association Freies Office Deutschland e.V. and member of the organizing committee. In addition, the project announced that the Call for Papers is immediately open until 15th August. Users and developers are invited to submit papers fitting one of the topics listed below. The submissions will then be reviewed by a committee, and the final program will be made available in early September. Topics for this year are: - Open Document Format (ODF) Plugfest - Interoperability - LibreOffice - Development and future: Technology, API, Extensions - Community-Track: Localization, Documentation, etc. - Best Practice und Migration: Certification and Support "The decision to hold this years conference in Berlin was made by an overwhelming majority of the community. Following the founding of The Document Foundation in February, we are proud to also have the LibreOffice Conference come to Berlin. This is a major event, not only for those involved in the project, but also for the everyone interested in the use of free office software and open standards", explains Florian Effenberger, Chairman of the Board at The Document Foundation. Further details regarding the Call for Papers can be found on the Conference website. Florian,
Could we please take out the "ODF plugfest" mention and replace it by ODF Track? It seems that IBM is vehemently refusing to allow the official ODF Plugfest to occur at the LibreOffice Conference . We of course would not want to embarrass these gentlemen. Thanks, Charles. 2012/6/25 David Batterson <[hidden email]> > RE: This is a major event, not only > for those involved in the project, but also for the everyone interested > in the use of free office software and open standards", explains Florian > Effenberger, Chairman of the Board at The Document Foundation. > > I suggest these corrections: Change "but also for the everyone" to: but > also for everyone > Change "explains Florian" to: explained Florian > Change "at the Document Foundation" to: of The Document Foundation. > > > > > On Sun, Jun 24, 2012 at 11:02 PM, Marc Paré <[hidden email]> wrote: > > > Hi Florian, > > > > If we are going to publish this again, some suggested corrections: > > > > > > -- > Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to [hidden email] > Problems? > http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ > Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette > List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/marketing/ > All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be > deleted > > -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to [hidden email] Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/marketing/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted |

Hi Charles, can you please forward the messages of IBM employees and supporters? I am collecting evidence of the anti TDF activity happening since 2011, for a nice ebook which will tell a lot about some self-appointed free software advocates.

I suppose they have a strategy, not an excuse. IBM and other self-appointed free software advocates would like to kill TDF and LibreOffice, and this is just another step forward.

Their reason is that "in order to avoid any friction, ODF plugfests should take place in neutral venues, for instance not in LibreOffice Conference or AOO conferences". The problem is of course that there has been so far zero AOO conference, and already one LibreOffice Conference. I don't see why it's bad to have an ODF PLugfest at the LibreOffice conference or at any AOO conference, or even KDE Summit, for that matter. There are multiple implementations of ODF out there, and it's an advantage, not a problem. But the "neutrality" argument is always pushed in such a way that TDF is the culprit, and I'm getting tired of that. I am very much in favor to keep our ODF Track without the ODF Plugfest tagging on it, and in fact I think that instead of a "track" we should turn it into a specific hackfest on ODF, where everyone (I mean, *everyone*) would be invited to join. What do others think? I agree on the concept of the hackfest, but OTOH I think it is now time to put together and make public online a collection of all the written opinions against TDF and LibreOffice which are coming from a group of people led by Rob Weir. I have just been in Ancona at the Italian Free Software Conference, and all the poeple I have talked to are aware of what is happening at ASF (and appalled by the fact that ASF is now an IBM proxy). So far, we have answered FUD with data, with the result that we have had Apache OO people escalating to the point that they have presented a rant against TDF/LibreOffice from the LinuxTag podium. I think that we should just put together raw data (screeshots) without comments. Other people will be able to connect the dots and develop their own opinion. SAOSA (self-appointed open source advocates à la Rob Weir) should start to be recognized for their peculiarities, and judged by authentic free software advocates for their [de]merits. -- Italo Vignoli - [hidden email] mob +39.348.5653829 - VoIP [hidden email] skype italovignoli - gtalk [hidden email] -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to [hidden email] Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/marketing/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

Well... I don't want to troll and I think we have more constructive things to do even with AOO and ASF (which I think is a reputable foundation and has been a net plus for FOSS).
