Hello,
After upgrading to LibreOffice 3.5 from 3.4 in Mac OS X 10.6.8, I noticed that all of my installed extensions disappered, and I had to re-download and re-install each manually. Is this a known phenomenon? Or did I do something wrong? I would like to make sure that I won't have to go through this process again when LibreOffice 3.6 is released. Thank you in advance for your replies. |

Hi :)
I think it is worth backing-up your user-profile before upgrading. Unlikely things do go wrong occasionally https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/UserProfile http://www.murphys-laws.com/murphy/murphy-true.html The trick is to make it work in your favour. If you do make a back-up the chances are you wont ever need it and will have wasted your time. If you don't back-up then chances are you will regret that and have to waste the next chunk of time fixing things. Same thing happened to my Ubuntu system going from 3.4.6 to 3.5.4. I was told that: 1] the extensions might not work with 3.5 so they do not keep them in your profile 2] the system stores some of the profile in a different place, and it did not get copied correctly For me, neither answer worked to my satisfaction. The Fix is just re-install them. I had 3 to 6 .oxt files to reinstall when I updated each of my Ubuntu and Windows computers from 3.4.6 to 3.5.4. Well, it would make sense that there might be some concern that the extensions created for 3.3 and 3.4 would work with 3.5. You should back up your profile every month and for every time you change versions of LO. 3.4.6 to 3.5.4 yes. 3.5.3 to 3.5.4, or 3.5.4 to 3.5.5, still yes. I think if you have a good working profile for LO, you should back it up so if your profile gets corrupted you will have a working one to fall back on. When I download extensions, I save them in a folder. Then when
upgrade LO as others have mentioned, I open LO and use Tools > Extension Manager on the Splash screen. Then I click the Add button to install them one at a time. For the extensions that will not work on the latest version of LO, I can always remove them and check for updates. --Dan webmaster-Kracked_P_P wrote: > > Same thing happened to my Ubuntu system going from 3.4.6 to 3.5.4. > > I was told that: > 1] the extensions might not work with 3.5 so they do not keep them > in your profile > > 2] the system stores some of the profile in a different place, and > it did not get copied correctly > > For me, neither answer worked to my satisfaction. > > The Fix is just re-install them. Since I am running Mac OS X 10.6.8, I suppose I can use its Time Machine feature to restore my past LibreOffice profile.
However, I do think it would be nice for LibreOffice to address migrating to new versions in a more user friendly way. Perhaps something like the automatic check that happens when Mozilla Firefox or Thunderbird get updated. The feature will test all addons to make sure they work, and if not, offers to try to update them for you. Making backups is always important, but, again, I propose some enhancements could be made to the LibreOffice upgrade process so that the user experience can be less "abrupt/surprising" than extensions disappearing without warning. Thanks for your answers! |
