Excellent - I guess you would not mind at all if we made a specific
version for the show in California, a draft of a _first_ thought:

http://baseanswers.com/libo/LibOPamphlet_scale_9x-pdf1_4.pdf

I would want to pass this alteration to both our design folks and the
scale folks also. Will drop them an email now and let them take a look,
just to be sure they are cool with the logo usage, doubt they will, well
hope they wouldn't.

ALSO - I would like to regenerate all those png files with a full 300
dpi, sized as you now have in the document. I will do that later tonight
and pass you back the odt file, ready for printing then IMO, and the new
png files in a separate archive file.

This is really nice!

ahh - that was a typo - really

just to be sure they are cool with the logo usage, doubt they will have
a problem, well hope they wouldn't.

was in the brain.. :-/

@Bernhard, Christoph, et al - let me know your thoughts on this show
specific idea.

Thanks to everyone in advance,

This is a second draft - the text has _not_ been updated since Italo's
last feedback on the ML, Marc has the baseline for text.

What I would like your attention on is a new graphic on the second page
in the pdf, or as printed, the inside left panel. The updated file can
be reviewed here: (it's a little bit larger file now 2.2 megs, 1.5 frmt
now, with the new graphic generated at print resolution 300dpi)

http://baseanswers.com/libo/LibOPamphlet_scale_9x_a.pdf

Anyway - let me know on this graphic only, ok. Particularly if anyone
thinks that is too crowded.

As you will see I've added the web and calc icons, along with a reprise
of the mime sic application icons.

I like it, but it might be getting a little busy, perhaps?

Thanks much, in advance, for your time on this,

Drew

Looks great. I don't think it will be too busy. The new graphic looks cool.

Hi Carl,

Thanks.

I did touch that graphic once more to open it up, by pulling the center
icons outwards. More of an oval now, I like this a good bit more.
- updated the pdf file at the URL above.

Re: LibreOffice Tri-Fold Pamphlet for SCALE ( was Re: [us-marketing] Re: LibreOffice Pamphlet)

Hi,

Well over an early coffee, I went ahead and merged Italo's comments into
Marc's latest on the wiki, and added one more graphic - thought maybe an
actual logo, the contemporary style might be nice, and it balances out
the columns when opened wide, IMO.

So draft 3 for the show specific pamphlet:

http://baseanswers.com/libo/LibOPamphlet_scale_9x_b.pdf

@marc do would you want another odt file, or just the changed/added png
files?

Thanks

Drew

It's hard to keep in pace with you guys - great work!

From my POV this pamphlet fits very well with the Branding Guidelines,
so no need to change it.

Nevertheless some thoughts...
(you know me - can't admit that some work is just perfect ;-) )

You added the Web and Chart icons to the graphic on the second page.

Why did you leave out Macro?

I would not suggest to promote Writer/Web actively - it has not been
worked on for years and I didn't hear any positive reaction during the
same time.

The Base icon on page 1 seems to be positioned slightly too low -
leading to a fifth indented line, while all the other app's show four of
them.

I don't know if you want to mention Chart on the first page too -
perhaps a problem of space.

Speaking of "six feature-rich applications" directly below an image
showing nine document icons looks a bit strange to me.

Perhaps an image showing the 6 applications in a star-like positioning
indicating their inter-relationship might be an idea...

And one point to the text content: Under "The LibreOffice Project" (as
"project" is a task leading to an end in my understanding I'd prefer
"Community") there is more than twice as much text about the product as
about the community - in fact, invitation to join us is the weakest
position in the entire pamphlet IMHO (of course it's user-related, but
showing them a way to be involved in a relevant way - possibly leading
to better inclusion of their interests in community and product - might
be important too).

As said - no reason to modify the pamphlet: Just some input for the case
you want to keep on working on it ...

Best regards

Bernhard

Re: LibreOffice Tri-Fold Pamphlet for SCALE ( was Re: [us-marketing] Re: LibreOffice Pamphlet)

Pamphlet looks great - particularly the positioning of the SCALE logo. It's
a good design that can be reused for subsequent events.
I do agree w/ the comment that there are N logos, and the text references N
- M products. It's not a show-stopper.
Thanks!

Hello Bernhard, Jeff, et al

I was pondering that n-m ratio, graphic or text, either could change I
suppose.

Berhand's comment on the usability, usage level, of HTML functionality
is a good one (*chuckling* a tale of file naming woes, if truth be out
as to why it is _not_ the macro graphic ;-) so another pass to the mill
for that graphic is certainly on the plate for todays fun and games.
Also, his good eye on that darn Base icon white space - looked right at
that and didn't _see_ it. Which is why the extra eyes help, no?

So - back in a bit then with draft 4. Will push the ODG file for that
graphic separately up to the wiki then, in addition.

Hi Bernhard,

Excellent points - I was of this broader question of who we see at this
event, why we go and what we hope to accomplish.

The conclusion that I keep running away from is that we need to
different pieces - perhaps a common page 1 - different page 2.

One piece, the current file I think fits for this one, would be targeted
to individuals capable of deciding to use LibreOffice in preference to
some other tool. This could of course be in respect to their person or
in the role they hold within a group, such as a club or institution.

The second should be looking for hackers - but not really hackers or to
put a finer point on it, not looking for hacks, looking for competent
help with core level software development tasks, first and foremost, and
then in addition motivated contributors for the broader community
activities, such as we are partaking in here.

[task next for this weeks show prep? perhaps]

Anyway - to answer your question from the previous email - yes it is
still a good time for editing, it needs to go off to the printer sooner
rather later over the next few days, but more for my sanity then printer
deadline... no rush today.

Ciao,

Drew

Drew, Marc,

This looks nice.

It would be helpful to incorporate all the goodies into an odt to be
used at other events (ahem...LinuxFest Northwest).

There are a couple of things here that the LibreOffice community could
assist with. Mona is coming to the Fest from Portland (about 250
miles). She'll be paying something out of pocket to get here. I will
be at the Fest as one of the Fest organizers and can support Mona with
exhibit people. What else?

1. It would be helpful to the LibO cause to have presentations at
LFNW. Is there a way for TDF to put out this call? I will also contact
Mona through the Fest site, suggesting ways that she can do this with
minimal effort.

2. It makes sense for the community to cover the cost of printing
brochures, rather than putting this cost on people who are already
pitching in to support LibO. Yes, there is a benefit to the
individuals. However, the community receives the bulk of the benefit
from more users and more exposure. And it's understandable that there
are a bunch of things that need to be paid for. Any ideas about how
this could work? Is there anybody on these lists who works for a
company uses or will use LibreOffice, and would be willing to use a
small part of the savings to pay for brochure printing?

Carl

Howdy,

Alright Draft 4:

http://baseanswers.com/libo/LibOPamphlet_scale_9x_c.odt

http://baseanswers.com/libo/scale-front-page.odg

Have made a number of changes per the last couple of responses.

Darn if that Base paragraph on Page 1 still isn't wrong - it is a
different spacing between the first two lines of text...arrrgh.

Well at least it will be gone on the next turn of the wheel, finally -
hopefully? :-/

Is it "Macintosh" or "OS X"?

IOW, two items are operating systems, one is a hardware platform.

Agreed. It's probably better to be as descriptive as possible, yet not
descend into "version xx" detail, when producing these kinds of fliers.

LibreOffice Tri-Fold Pamphlet for SCALE - final?

Hola amigos,

 http://baseanswers.com/libo/LibOPamphlet_scale_9x_c.pdf

Made, what I feel is a good set of final adjustments and edits - if you
see something onerous yell, for myself I a comfortable with considering
this one time use brochure, put to bed.

Changes to 1st page, re-arrange applications for alignment - update to
contact section.

Second page - re-word second paragraph in document exchange section.

The odt file, at the same address updated also. Will not put the scale
specifc file to the wiki, after a day or two for last folks to check
will remove and send to printer.

Will drop a file less the scale logo to the wiki instead.

@Marc, you seem the best o ask, where should I list the file for others
to find?

Best wishes,

Drew

Hi Drew:

It should be listed in the Marketing-> Conference Kit wiki page. I am
adding resources and examples of mods as they come up. Other conference
teams should be able to see prior moded resources so that they can have
examples to work with. It would be nice if you could reference the
master pamphlet as well as the moded SCALE pamphlet as an example on
that page.

We need to make is as easy as possible for our teams to gear up for
conferences so that we show up as prepared as possible for the public.

BTW ... I sent you a note on the US list re: one adjustment to 2 words
on the pamphlet.

Cheers

Marc
