Drew,
Gold! Using these in a promo video would be righteous. Is there someone on the list who has the video editing skills to do something with this? I have a vague idea of what something could look like, but don't have the video skills. I would be happy to work on this with folks. promotional video - background on TDF and LibO, high level demonstration of applications (record my desktop), user comments interspersed. Closer to Blair Witch Project production than fancy (expensive) high tech hype. Drew was fantastic with the videos. It was really informal, he just
asked people to say whatever they wanted about LibreOffice. He took some more video today; I think he said he'd post those tonight. Good suggestions about getting different demographics -- SCaLE is over now, so it'll have to wait to the next venue. Drew worked with the demographic attending which, alas, is narrower than society at large. ----Jon On 02/27/2011 07:19 PM, Marc Paré wrote: > Le 2011-02-27 22:14, Marc Paré a écrit : >> Le 2011-02-27 11:51, [hidden email] a écrit : >>> Howdy All, >>> >>> Just uploaded some yesterdays videos - not edited, these are just >>> short comments from show attendees. >>> >>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yse5zUsWQtA >>> >>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYvUuE7zHtk >>> >>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0A1yc7iS1TI >>> >>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AKxMo0O5gQ >>> >>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgzrAYAYg6U >>> >>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2I8Dnn7A9Vc >>> >>> more later, >>> >>> Drew, Andy, Jeff and Jon... >>> >>> >>> >> >> These are AWESOME!!!! Yes - I managed to work that in, each person - This is going on YouTube and will be used for Marketing purposes. This is OK with you? If they weren't comfortable with that, and many were not, no video, it was that straight forward and simple. I didn't keep a ticker but anecdotally I'd say 1 - 2 folks said, nope not really comfortable to do that, for each one that enthusiastically (and they were) said yes. So a few more from Sunday, it was much slower then Saturday, traffic wise, although I think we had longer conversations, including some user support, as in hey how do I, type questions. Put a clear license on any material. Hi Drew, all, I'm my opinion YouTube's ToS are incompatible with several core values of software freedom and the LibreOffice project specifically: http://www.youtube.com/t/terms In the spirit of coherence with the LibreOffice project (ie. free, open formats) and accessibility of such files, can we *not* upload them *exclusively* to YouTube ? To me this is very much the equivalent of publishing software under a non-free license, without its source code. I see there's already one message in this thread asking how to get offline versions of such videos. I've raised this concern before, and wrote a guide on how to upload videos to archive.org: http://www.wikihow.com/Upload-Videos-to-Archive.Org-and-Make-Them-Available-in-Free%2C-Open-Formats I must emphasize I can't force anyone not to upload to YouTube only, but by doing so you're sending a confusing message - that you and TDF and/or any of the marketing team members, specially when doing so at an event, agree to YouTube's ToS. It's also not ideal for anyone wanting to remix / reuse such videos. With such limited resources any and all material we produce should ideally have a clear license, include source files on a server where ToS permit its free, unlimited, unrestricted use. I don't mean to come across harsh, and I believe 99% of the time there's only good intentions when sharing via YouTube but we need to get smarter at this ;) Cheers, -- LibreOffice questions ? It sits silent and grey on the toolbar until there is downloadable content on the displayed page. It's worked well for me. It will also convert format. For example, one of Drew's links shows a choice of mp4, flv and different resolution formats to be downloaded. A menu can be displayed that has several options...the only one I've used converts those originally displayed formats to mp3 (audio only). Firefox has an add-on called DownloadHelper that can save videos. As Fabian mentioned, youtube's terms of service dis-allow this, but my understanding is that fair use is allowed, regardless of any terms of service, at least in the U.S. For example, jailbreaking your iPhone, or remixing a video is non-infringing use of copyrighted materials, according to the U.S. Copyright Office, even though Apple wants this to be illegal. Check with EFF or your attorney for details. :) Fabian is right, though, that it would be nice to have the videos on explicitly more friendly terms, and it sounds like Drew is working on it. ----Jon -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to [hidden email] List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/us/marketing/ *** All posts to this list are publicly archived for eternity *** |

Yes - well I want to edit these some, but here they are un-edited, rendered in Vorbis format: [note I gave them little names vs numbers and these are not in same order as on youtube] http://baseanswers.com/libo/scale_vids/I_absolutely_support_Libo.ogv http://baseanswers.com/libo/scale_vids/Love_the_OSx_exp.ogv http://baseanswers.com/libo/scale_vids/Two_months_ago.ogv http://baseanswers.com/libo/scale_vids/mac_user_2.ogv http://baseanswers.com/libo/scale_vids/casual_user.ogv http://baseanswers.com/libo/scale_vids/600Lb_gorilla.ogv http://baseanswers.com/libo/scale_vids/Invite_to_SELF.ogv http://baseanswers.com/libo/scale_vids/OOO_out_LibO_in.ogv http://baseanswers.com/libo/scale_vids/used_by_scale_staff.ogv http://baseanswers.com/libo/scale_vids/Its_fantastic.ogv You can copy these then, but I would rather you didn't just yet. They will stream from this server, BTW, and I will leave those files in that spot for a while if it helps. Here is a work in progress - PLEASE DO NOT COPY this one YET- This is what I would like to do with a few (3 or 4) separates and maybe one collage - BUT need to do this via the design folks and I'm they may change the opening and closing but at some point this style is what I would rather put up to the permanent repository(s) http://baseanswers.com/libo/scale_vids/TDF_Love_the_OSx_exp_720p.ogv So - that one file above will likely not last long at that address, just long enough to be reviewed by someone... thanks Drew -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to [hidden email] List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/us/marketing/ *** All posts to this list are publicly archived for eternity ***
