Below is verbatim copy of the reply dialogue text box; note the

While I still cannot reproduce your problem, it is clear that gmail is
unsuitable for replying to digest mails.

But I wonder why you're using the digest at all, you could use
multiple-inboxes in gmail, or labels instead and have a much better
experience. And more importantly: You won't screw up threading when
replying to others.

This is false; gmail is used satisfactorily with other mailing lists
without this error.

Personal preference for digest-mode. Again, other mailing lists are
used successfully.

No, not false, It cannot deal with multipart properly, and thus you
cannot reply to individual mails, breaking the thread.

The mails the listsystem sends are perfectly valid messages, but
google mail is not handling them appropriately. So nothing to do about
it. Bug in gmail, not fixable on our end.

Why is it then possible for gmail to be used with other mail lists
(such as those stated previously) and threads are maintained? There
seems to be resistance to accept this observation.

The example in the pastebin output shows clearly otherwise. To
reiterate, other mail list managers do not show this behaviour!

Stop this useless discussion please.
Again: gmail is unsuitable fo replying to digest mails as there is no
way of not breaking a thread when using gmail to reply to a digest
mail.

> Note
> that each message shows the subject and the sender and for gnuplot and
> clawsmail, the message number, none of these header fields produced by

Bullshit, and this was written and demonstrated by me already. So case
closed. I won't read any more messages about this.

We won't change the way digests are handled, as it is perfectly valid
multipart messages.
It's a bug in gmail.<period>

So again:
* When using digest reply with gmail you break the thread. So don't
use it. Also your "demonstration" of digest mails of other lists is
void, as you will break the thread with those as well. This is stupid,
annoying & antisocial behaviour. You'll make it more difficult for
others to follow a discussion.
* The digest mails as generated by the LO lists are all valid, each
message of the multipart/digest has full headers, has all there is
needed for a sane header to decode and display the message. Again: If
you cannot read it, it is a bug in gmail, nothing we can fix.
