writer pages are driving me crazy

First I wanted to know why the discussion was dead on the design team. was
not a month ago that I was getting an email every day. I don't know.

Any way I have been using Libre Writer for school and noteist something that
drives me crazy.  Now its kinda stupid but what ever.  Ok when you zoom in
and out the page does something weird.

here is writer at 20% zoom.
https://picasaweb.google.com/113439282950133616549/LibrePage?authkey=Gv1sRgCNyhteS-trmFZQ#5646077660429779506

here it is at 47% zoom.
https://picasaweb.google.com/113439282950133616549/LibrePage?authkey=Gv1sRgCNyhteS-trmFZQ#5646077673434358818

hereit is at 100% zoom.
https://picasaweb.google.com/113439282950133616549/LibrePage?authkey=Gv1sRgCNyhteS-trmFZQ#5646077692442988322

at 135%

now heres what drives me crazy starting at 145% zoom it goes off center.
https://picasaweb.google.com/113439282950133616549/LibrePage?authkey=Gv1sRgCNyhteS-trmFZQ#5646077750619409378

why does LibreOffice writer even have a 600% zoom. I don't see a reason to
have more than 200% to 300% zoom.  I can see it in an art program like draw,
GIMP, inkscape but not a word processor. why does this not center, I like to
keep it at 145% so that it is the biggest size that it can be and I can
still see the hole page left to right.

I don't know maybe this is not that big a deal, M$ Word$ does it to.  what
do you think.

I guess is that all the main parts use the same scaling engine and the
scaling factors are determined by the smallest anyone part needs and
similarly for the largest.

You probably don't need that big a zoom, but at least I do need it when
I'm hacking on some Writer painting code to check that things are
properly aligned and displayed.

Re: writer pages are driving me crazy

I agree with Andrew. I have faced this 'issue' too. In my case, this
happens when I am moving back and forth between my laptop and desktop.
My desktop has a 24 inch monitor and when I am working on a document, I
zoom in to about 150% there. When I want to work on the same document on
my laptop that has a samller screen, LibO remembers (rightfully so) that
the zoom level for the document is 150% but left aligns the page showing
empty margins while center aligning the page would still be able to
display the contents properly.

I hope someone could shed light on this behavior - is this an expected
one? a designed feature, or a bug that needs fixing?

Thanks,
Vamsi.

Re: writer pages are driving me crazy

Hi all!

Sorry for commenting a bit late, but my vacation just ended ... so I'm
back and crawling through my mails (during the last days).

Well, personally I think that is another issue - there are some similar
problems that drive people drive nuts with regard to multi-page views.

Andrew, there may be issues with the zoom slider. If done properly,
there could even be some difference between "setting the zoom via the
slider" (limiting the default zoom level) and "setting it via number
entry" (providing a larger zoom range).

For those who might work on improvement proposals, here is an
(extensive) list of what we've collected in the OOo UX team. If some
tiny issues could be resolved (e.g. by providing a good description how
it should work), then this would be very helpful:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Zoom_Slider#Design_and_User_Experience_issues

Cheers,
Christoph

If anyone can post a link to his profile, so I can see the docs, I would
be grateful, since I have no idea of how to navigate the wiki to find it.

RE: writer pages are driving me crazy

Hey All,

I've updated my profile and designed the first mockup of what LibreOffice could be like. Please tell me what you think! Suggestions would also be nice :) Please know that this is something I did in about an hour, so my apologies if it's looking a tad bit awkward.

My profile is: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/User:Twstdude0to1

Thanks, Evan Janusziewicz
